Taking the molten glass from the Raku clay pot, known as the Crucible at 1100 degrees Celsius. Collecting the glass onto our pipe, rolling the molten glass into the color, and begin manipulating the molten glass to form the design. This is done using different tools, like tweezers, or rake, making each bauble completely unique. Then blowing, tooling and reheating the glass, by thrusting it into the intense flames. It begins to form its new life as a glass bauble, adding the hat, eyes, buttons and scarf. Last is the cute little “carrot” nose.

Once everything is in place and he is looking good, he is cut from the pipe, whilst a base is made from molten glass to keep him stable all through your festive season. So much fun to make!  To avoid thermal shock, each piece is put into the Annealer which ensures your glass art, is durable enough to last a lifetime.  Try making glass baubles yourself with us here at Tamborine Glassblowing.
